If the stars align he can grab Yvresse super quickly and that's the best place to be if you're a Dark Elf. Rakarth has an instant recruitment pool which is always a useful mechanic, but his campaign is super variable depending on who declares war on you and what happens on Ulthuan. Morathi is also very strong personally and factionwise but has the start from hell. Naggarond is an uninspiring faction though. He's also got a very secure start position until turn 90 when it suddenly turns perilous as Chaos arrives right on his doorstep.

Malekith is probably the easiest time of it for the first 90 turns because his Tyrant skill line sorts out one of the Dark Elves' biggest problems which is their woeful public order. None of the Dark Elf factions really have strong and interesting mechaincs. Which is too bad because next to Skavenblight she probably competes for 'most valuable starting city.' I don't know how the AI makes it to Ulthuan. Morathi is pure misery with the Sisters as an added menace, and not a lot of green territory that you will actually be fighting over. He is high on my list for a Legendary campaign attempt. If you clean up your northern territory you have an enormously powerful military faction with 1 vector for conquest, just keep a garrison to swat chaos when they show up in Hung territory. Between his ability as a sweet wizard, his red line, his dragon, and the sword/helm/shield/armor of ass-kicking you can safely invest 0 points in his yellow line and he will still be a monster. Malekith has a comfy start position and really scratches the power fantasy itch. Rakarth is fun but will probably last all of 50 or 60 turns. Hellebron herself with a witch army is a lot of fun, though. Hellebron's main mechanic is kind of lackluster and doesn't give the player a lot of agency, and is probably my vote for weakest Dark elf campaign. You can pile slaves onto your starting Gold mine province and your economy looks pretty good from there. You can pretty safely neutralize just the Lustrian Eastern Coastline, diplomacy out of fighting the lizardmen (they'll love you for killing Harkon and Skrolk), and then abuse the fact that Black Arks don't add to the supply lines upkeep penalty, and start sacking every coastline from your start to Karond Kar.

Lokhir is a big winner from the latest patch and you can play a very fun nautical themed campaign, that mimics some of the Vampire Coast style.
